On September 24th, we will have the tri-partite Gala Dinner, together with our friends from the Cambridge and LSE alumni societies. The LSE is organising the event this year, and they booked the SKY-BAR restaurant on the route de Longwy for us.
Later this year, we will have the OUSL black tie dinner, and a singing recital plus dinner. Watch this space as details for both events will soon follow.
Our member Felix Pflücke invited OUSL members to a lecture on comparative Law ‘in Layers'” at the Law Faculty of the University of Luxembourg (Weicker Building, Kirchberg) on October 3rd from 13:00 until 14:30. A light lunch will be provided. The lecture is given by Professor Birke Häcker, Director of Comparative Private Law at the University of Bonn, who previously held the Chair of Comparative Law at the University of Oxford.
The lecture will explore a frequently observed yet under-discussed phenomenon in comparative law: how the outcomes of legal comparisons vary depending on the “layer” or “level” at which they are conducted. At different levels, legal systems may seem to converge or diverge, with conclusions shifting as one delves deeper into the analysis. This dynamic affects both macro- and micro-comparisons, and Prof. Häcker will illustrate these points through specific examples. The presentation aims to raise awareness of this layered approach and its practical implications for comparative legal studies.
