Study at Oxford

The OUSL informs students about studying in the UK, and offers to counsel talented students to apply to the University of Oxford.

Our society participates in the annual foire de l’étudiant and in information sessions at local schools and lycées, where we provide information on available courses and explain the application process for British universities, which is centralized via www.UCAS.com. A presentation on courses, colleges and UCAS can be found here.

Via UCAS, prospective students can apply to a maximum of five British universities. The deadline for Oxford and Cambridge is in October of the year before the start of the course. Prospective students can only apply to Oxford or to Cambridge, but not to both.

Oxford University is very selective and is one of the few British Universities that invites prospective students for a personal interview before making offers.
Approximately one third of interviewees receive offers, and offers are almost always conditional on marks achieved in the final year examinations.
A typical conditional offer to the University of Oxford requires A*A*A for students following the UK curriculum. Students sitting Luxembourg final exams should aim to have all marks higher than 50, with marks higher than 55 in the most relevant subjects. A typical conditional offer for students doing the International Baccalaureate is a total of 39 points with ‘766’, with a 7 in the chosen subject.

Your best source of information on courses and the application procedure can be found on the Oxford University website.

Practice Interviews

Every year we offer applicants practice interviews before the real interviews that typically take place in December. Applicants who would like to have a practice interview should email office@oxford.lu  and attach a copy of their UCAS application in pdf format to the email.

We will do our best to organize an interview for you but we cannot promise to serve all applicants: it depends on the availability of suitable subject interviewers, and the order the requests for such interviews are received.

Fresher’s dinner

Every September, we invite the successful applicants for a Fresher’s Dinner, and offer them a free membership of our society during their studies, so that they can be involved in our activities and attend our events (typically at a student-discount) whenever they are in Luxembourg.
